About

Who We Are:

Stark Mountain Woodworking is a full service custom woodworking company that is dedicated to answering the design needs of our clients in ways that are creative, value oriented and sustainable. We are a ten man shop with a full-time CAD draftsman, based in a 15,000 square ft. facility in New Haven, Vermont. Whether we are providing a full kitchen, a front entrance door, distinctive furniture or specialized cabinetry, we are committed to creating pieces that enhance a small corner of the world while striving to bring us towards a more sustainable future.

What We Can Do:

Stark Mountain has full CAD drawing capabilities to make sure clients and fabricators have a clear picture of the project at hand. We work in solid wood, favoring locally sourced material whenever possible, as well as veneers of all kinds. We enjoy working with wood for its warmth and aliveness, as well as its sustainability. We are also adept at using a broad range of materials: metals of all types, glass both new and reclaimed, new age environmentally produced composites and resin based panels to name a few. Let us guide you from concept or back of the napkin sketch, through 2D and 3D renderings to realization. If you can imagine it, we can build it.

What Motivates Us:

We enjoy doing what we do– from getting together with prospective clients and coming to an understanding of their vision and functionality needs, through the design and material selection process to approved shop drawings ready for construction, and then into the shop for fabrication, finishing and final assembly. At each stage of the process from idea to tangible functional reality, there are puzzles to be solved and details to be resolved. These are things that make our work fun, challenging and rewarding. Fundamentally, we love working with wood (and occasionally some other stuff) and making durable and beautiful objects that fulfill a need.

What Else Motivates Us:

Inspired by the idea that good planets really are hard to find, we are doing a few things that we hope will help keep this blue green planet hospitable to us and ours down through the generations, and perhaps encourage others to follow suit.

We also want our process to be as sustainable as our principal medium, wood. Toward that end we first became FSC certified by Smartwood back in 2001. Though FSC products have not taken off the way we hoped back in 2001, whenever possible we steer our clients toward locally sourced wood.
